Lamination is a technology that enables the properties of several materials to be combined, so as to obtain a complex material offering combined performance results, such as rigidity and impermeability. The basic material is generally compact cardboard, onto which are glued one or more supports: film or paper, which may or may not be printed.
Laminated products combine the performance results of various different components:
. Films : suitability for contact with foodstuffs, barrier to migrations, resistance to humidity (impermeability), glossiness, printability, suitability for metallisation and highly reduced thickness, to which are added the qualities of the various polymers (PP, PET and PE).
. Cardboards : thickness, rigidity, a material produced from recycling, absorbing power, recyclability, pliability.
. Papers : variety of thin supports (Kraft, matt and coated paper), suitability for contact with foodstuffs, printability.
